| There are many varieties of meditation, but what they generally have in
common are techniques for making the mind peaceful. Two guiding features
of Vipassana, a Buddhist-based technique, are mindfulness and
compassion achieved through insight.
“The real glory of meditation lies not in any method, but in its continual living experience of presence, in its bliss, clarity, peace and most important of all, complete absence of grasping. When you live in that wisdom home, you’ll no longer find a barrier between “I” and “You”; “this or that”; “inside – outside”. You’ll have come, finally to your true home, the state of non-duality.” The more familiar we become with the mind, the more we come to realize the nature of impermanence, suffering, selflessness, and ultimately freedom from the conditioned responses of fear, anger, hatred, and delusion. As our compassion naturally grows within us, there is greater pursuit for happiness in our own lives as well as the keen interest in helping others to enjoy happiness in their lives. The practice of meditation helps to increase peace in the world. |
